Purple and Yellow

About the Exhibition

Purple and Yellow by George Sugarman (1912-1999, b. New York City, NY) is a lyrical and exuberant construction. It measures 17’ x 17’ x 14’, and is constructed of painted steel and aluminum sheets. The sheets are cut in irregular patterns and are welded and bolted together to form two distinct shapes placed side by side. The shapes are further articulated by painting each a separate color. An allover unity is maintained between the forms by a rigorous formal relationship.
